About Rodney

Rodney has dedicated himself to serving the constituents of Beauregard, Sabine, and Vernon parishes as their State Representative. Since 2019, he has been a full-time advocate for District 24, ensuring that the voices of his community are heard in Baton Rouge. Rodney firmly believes that a representative’s role is to champion the agenda of their constituents, prioritizing their needs above personal interests.

Retired after four decades of success as the owner of Schamerhorn, Inc., a company specializing in trucking, site work, roll-off containers, and construction debris services, Rodney has earned a strong reputation as a leader in the industry. He is also a state-licensed contractor. Rodney’s extensive business experience has shaped his valuable contributions to key legislative committees and caucuses, including the Municipal, Parochial and Cultural Affairs Committee, the Natural Resources and Environment Committee, the Transportation, Highways and Public Works Committee, and the Legislative Audit Advisory Council.

In addition, Rodney is honored to be a member of the Louisiana Republican Legislative Delegation, the Louisiana Rural Caucus, and the Conservative Caucus. His steadfast commitment to conservative values and consistent voting record also earned him membership in the Freedom Caucus.

At home, Representative Schamerhorn is a proud father of two successful business owners and a grandfather. He is an active member of Anacoco Baptist Church and is involved in numerous organizations, including the Louisiana Solid Waste Association, where he currently serves as a board member, the Lions Club, and as a lifetime member of the Louisiana Jaycees. Rodney is also engaged with the Greater Sabine and Vernon Chambers of Commerce, the Beefmasters Breeders Association (where he contributed to the development of the Nolen Ryan lean and tender beef label available in Kroger stores and other food outlets across the South), and the Louisiana Cattlemen’s Association. Volunteering is a passion for Rodney, and he actively supports Louisiana 4-H and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

Rodney Schamerhorn is dedicated to bringing meaningful, positive change to our communities ensuring that the constituents of District 24 and the people of Louisiana receive the leadership they deserve.
